All 190 plus schools were using Gold, a traditional, locally deployed, 'modular' style MIS from Pearson Phoenix. An innovative approach to selecting a new MIS was employed - asking the schools to choose their own software. The Authority made a commitment that whatever solution was best determined to best fit the schools' needs would be the system implemented. With staff from secondary, primary, nursery and special education, all schools were represented in the process of producing a specification, supplier/product review and finally selection. Even with that inclusive approach at the heart of the process, changing MIS systems was always going to prove a significant challenge.
